Dermal Fillers
Dermal Fillers are cosmetic treatments designed primarily for anti-aging purposes. They harness the power of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance produced by our bodies. As we age, our bodies produce hyaluronic acid at a reduced rate, leading to the development of wrinkles and the loss of skin volume. Dermal fillers offer an effective solution to combat these signs of ageing, and their benefits extend to people of all ages, thanks to their versatility, cost-effectiveness, and long-lasting effects.
Common Uses of Dermal Fillers
Dermal Fillers offer a wide range of applications, including:
- Reduction of Wrinkles: Smooth out lines and wrinkles, giving your skin a more youthful appearance.
- Lip Fillers: Achieve plumper, more defined and balanced lips, enhancing your natural beauty.
- Facial Reshaping: Sculpt and contour your face, providing a non-surgical alternative to more invasive procedures.
- Improvement of Skin Texture: Say goodbye to uneven skin texture with Dermal Fillers, which can help smooth out imperfections.
At Nura Skin Aesthetics, your practitioner will tailor treatments to your unique needs, ensuring you achieve the desired results.
Benefits of Dermal Fillers
Dermal Fillers offer numerous benefits, including:
- Immediate Results: Effects can be enjoyed right after the procedure.
- Longevity: Depending on various factors, such as skin type and after-care, treatments typically last 12-18 months.
- Safety: When administered by a qualified healthcare practitioner, Dermal Filler procedures are extremely safe.
- Affordability: Dermal Fillers provide excellent value for their cost, making them an accessible option for many.
Dermal Filler Procedure
Your journey with Dermal Filler treatments starts with a consultation, where you’ll discuss your concerns and goals with a Nura Skin Practitioner.
Before Your Appointment
• One week prior to your appointment, avoid over-the-counter blood-thinning medications like Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Nurofen. Additionally, steer clear of supplements such as St. John’s Wort, Gingko Biloba, Primrose Oil, Garlic, Ginseng, and Vitamin E, as they can thin your blood and increase your risk of bruising.
• Three days before your treatment, refrain from using topical products like Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinol, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, or any “anti-aging” products. Also, avoid beauty treatments like waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or using hair removal cream on the treatment area.
• On the day before your treatment, it’s advisable not to consume alcoholic beverages.
• If you’ve had facial cold sores in the past, there’s a risk that the needle punctures could trigger another outbreak. Please inform your practitioner if you are prone to cold sores.
• Dermal fillers cannot be administered if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, allergic to any ingredients, or have neurological disorders. Feel free to ask any questions about this before your treatment.
During Your Treatments
Consent Matters
The consent process is a crucial part of your consultation. Your practitioner will discuss the procedure’s risks and benefits in detail, and will get your signature for consent before any treatment starts.
Prepare Your Skin
Please wash your face and remove all makeup before your treatment, ensuring your face is free of any oils or creams to optimise the treatment’s effectiveness.
The Procedure
- Just before the treatment, your practitioner will thoroughly cleanse your face. You may receive a topical anaesthetic to numb the area, reducing discomfort during and after the procedure. At Nura Skin, the dermal fillers we use also contain Lidocaine, a mild anaesthetic, to help with your comfort during the treatment.
- Your practitioner will then strategically inject the precise amount of dermal filler beneath your skin, using either a needle or a cannula.
- Depending on the product and treatment areas, you should notice immediate results. Some patients may experience mild bruising and swelling, but these effects are temporary and should diminish over the following days.
After Your Treatment
When you book with Nura Skin Aesthetics, you’ll receive comprehensive aftercare instructions via email. Your practitioner will guide you through the post-treatment process, and will schedule a review appointment as required.
Following your treatment, it’s important to:
- Avoid touching, pressing, rubbing, massaging, or manipulating the treated areas for the first 6 hours. Doing so may cause irritation, bruising or filler migration. You can apply ice or Arnica topically after 6 hours.
- Refrain from consuming alcohol or engaging in strenuous exercise on the day of treatment and for 48 hours afterwards, as this may result in additional bruising.
- Steer clear of intense heat in the treated areas. This includes activities like sunbathing, tanning, using saunas, hot tubs, or hot wax.
- Minimise movement in the treated areas. However, if you notice a visible bump, gentle massage is permissible. Contact your practitioner who will be able to guide you. Depending on the treatment areas and the product used, you may experience some “firmness” that will soften and settle within 1-2 weeks.
How Do Dermal Fillers Compare With Botox®?
While both Dermal Fillers and Botox® offer rejuvenating benefits, they are fundamentally different procedures:
- Dermal Fillers restore lost volume and reshape facial features using hyaluronic acid.
- Botox® freezes facial muscles to reduce the formation of wrinkles caused by repeated movements.
Dermal Fillers have a longer-lasting effect, typically lasting 12-18 months, while Botox lasts around 3-4 months. The choice between the two depends on your specific concerns and goals. Dermal Fillers excel at addressing resting face wrinkles, while Botox is ideal for facial creases formed by repetitive movements.
How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost?
The cost of Dermal Fillers varies based on individual circumstances and treatment requirements. During your consultation, you’ll gain a clear understanding of the process and pricing, ensuring you make an informed decision about your treatment. See our Pricing Page for more information.
